Valerie Watts, Psy.D. (she/her)

Valerie Watts. Psy.D. will be joining Goldsmith Psychological Services in fall 2024 as a licensed Psychologist in the state of California.  Dr. Watts has experience working with individuals across adulthood; particularly within the college and veteran population. She enjoys helping people find their strength through difficulties such as general life stressors, substance use problems and other addictive behaviors, chronic pain, anxiety, depression, trauma, grief and loss, adjustment disorders, and suicidal ideation. She is passionate about providing a safe and supportive environment for her clients to learn and grow through therapy.

 

In her practice, Dr. Watts strives to provide person first treatment and ensures clients are an integral part of their treatment planning process. She understands that not every treatment will work for everyone and makes sure to tailor the therapeutic process to each client’s individual needs. She utilizes a variety of therapeutic approached including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and mindfulness-based practices.

 

Dr. Watts received a Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from Loma Linda University (APA accredited) in 2023. She completed an APA accredited doctoral internship and postdoctoral residency through the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System at the West Los Angeles VA and VA Los Angeles Ambulatory Care Center. In her residency, Dr. Watts specialized in the treatment of substance use disorders. She also earned a Masters of Arts degree in Clinical Psychology from Loma Linda University in 2020 and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from California State University Long Beach in 2018.
