What To Expect

What is the cost?

The initial intake and assessment costs $200. Subsequent sessions are $125 per 60 minute session. Sessions occur 2-3 times per week. Neurofeedback is an investment in long term brain health and functioning.

How will I know if it is working?

It is common for it to take a few sessions before the positive effects of neurofeedback are noticeable. The longer you train, the more permanent your gains will be. It is possible that you might need some “tune-up sessions” after training is completed. This therapy is highly individualized and tailored to your unique needs and as such, we work closely with you to monitor progress. It is very important to pay attention to your mind and body and to communicate any changes your notice with your trainer.  Neurofeedback has a high success rate, but as with any other type of therapy or treatment, please note that neurofeedback might not work for everyone.

Will Neurofeedback damage my brain?

No.  Neurofeedback in a non-invasive, drug free, technology that trains your brain to perform better.  In many cases, the gains resulting from neurofeedback can be so successful that medications are no longer needed for issues such as depression, ADHD, or anxiety.  We strongly recommend that you work with your prescribing physician before making any medication changes.

What does a typical session look like?

The first session is an assessment to get a baseline reading of your brain's functioning. This will include a self-report questionnaire and EEG readings of your current brainwave patterns. Subsequent sessions will consist of hooking up EEG sensors directly to the scalp to measure brainwave activity. You will be listening to music or watching a video while the software measures and provides feedback about your brain's performance. The equipment will alter the images and sounds to reward your brain's desired activity and correct undesired activity.

How long does the entire process take?

As with any new skill, neurofeedback requires time and repetition to sustain long term gains. Some individuals see results in as little as a few weeks while others might need longer. Attending sessions on a consistent basis is key to maximizing improvement. Understanding that everyone's brains are different and results cannot be guaranteed, the average length of treatment is between 25 to 40 sessions.

This is not psychotherapy and does not replace the need for professional counseling when struggling with major mental health issues. Neurofeedback is a great companion to therapy and can help solidify gains made in counseling.

What Is Neurofeedback?

Neurofeedback (also called EEG biofeedback) is a non invasive therapy that uses electrical activity to help optimize brainwave functioning. No two brains are the same and dysregulated brainwaves can provoke and intensify difficulties with mood and functioning. Neurofeedback rewards ideal brainwave patterns to help train the brain to reduce problematic activity and increase optimal performance.
