Samson (Ben) Benjamin, AMFT (he/him)
Ben Benjamin is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of California. He works with adults and adolescents. He enjoys working with all sorts of clients, including college students, couples, and anyone facing major life changes. He has experience working with individuals impacted by anxiety, depression, relationship distress, infidelity, divorce, family dysfunction, parenting issues, adjustment difficulties, post-traumatic stress, addiction and substance use, grief and loss, and issues associated with chronic medical conditions.
Ben particularly appreciates the unique strengths and challenges of those who find themselves standing between two worlds: their own identity (ethnic, cultural, sexual, gender, or other), and that of the dominant culture.
Ben’s therapeutic process is creative and flexible and is informed by a wide range of practices which he tailors to each individual client. Ben works to create a safe, caring space where his clients are accepted and understood. With his clients, he collaboratively explores new ways to view, interact with, and respond to those things which appear to be blocking them from living their preferred lives. Ben is trained in Narrative Therapy which understands the “problem” to be outside of the person, as well as Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), which uses emotion to identify and transform learned reactions which were once needed for survival but are now getting in the way. Ben is both present-moment focused and solution focused and incorporates Mindfulness practices in his work when appropriate.
Ben is a proud career transitioner. He loves being a therapist and brings a wide range of life experiences with him.
Ben earned his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana and his Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy from Chapman University.
